Q: Do the carriers have premium requirements?
A: No


Q: Do I have to be a Smart Choice® agent?
A: You get the best of both worlds as you have the option to get direct sub-codes (subject to insurance company approval) through Smart Choice and/or markets through Smart Start. The majority of our agents will have both direct subcodes and additional markets through Smart Start.


Q: Do I have binding authority?
A: No you will need to get approval from our dedicated underwriter.


Q: Will the carriers consider me for a direct appointment?
A: Yes, they may.


Q: Are further carriers being considered?
A: Yes, we will continue to add carriers as we work out partnerships.


Q: Do I need E&O Insurance?
A: Yes, with $1,000,000 limits. If you need to secure competitive E&O, Smart Choice® has its own discounted program. Click here to receive a quote from CalSurance and you can receive E&O binder within minutes!


Q: How do I receive commissions?
A: Smart Choice® commissions will be paid to you on the 15th and 30th of each month as they are received from the carrier. You will receive a detailed commission breakdown by policy for each carrier.


Q: Will I receive a copy of the policy?
A: You will have an on-line portal that you can review policy information and commissions.
