Q: Are there any fees to join Smart Choice®?

Q: Are there any fees to join Smart Choice®?
A: No, Smart Choice does not charge you initial fees to join or any monthly fees. We instead rely on commission sharing with you, up to a fair and reasonable level or “cap” in order to help fund the support we provide. Once you reach that level of business, you receive 100 percent of commissions above that level!


Q: Once I join Smart Choice®, how long before I can begin writing business?
A: You can begin writing business through our Smart Start program immediately, while you wait on your appointments. Appointments can generally be received in less than 30 days.


Q: Does Smart Choice® offer access to markets other than P&C lines?
A: Yes. Smart Choice gives you access to commercial lines, financial services, and group and individual life and health services. It is up to you to decide what fits your agency, and Smart Choice will provide all of the training necessary to get you started.


Q: Are there volume commitments with the companies I will be representing?
A: One of the benefits of the Smart Choice® program is that your volume expectations for these top notch companies are minimal—only a small percentage of what our companies would expect from a directly appointed agent.


Q: Who owns the business that I write?
A: You do! We do not take any ownership in your business or customers.


Q: I have appointments with several companies outside of Smart Choice® already–can I continue to write with them?
A: Certainly. You may keep any contract you currently have. While we encourage you to take advantage of all of the opportunities offered by Smart Choice, we realize that you have solid relationships built with carriers you’d like to maintain.


Q: How do I receive my commissions?
A: Smart Choice® receives your commission information from each of the carriers with whom you’re appointed through our program, then develops the reports and direct deposits the money into your bank account.
