Doug Witcher, CEO of Smart Choice, a network for independent insurance agentsAs we round the corner into the last quarter of the year, it’s important to reflect on your goals for 2019 and how much progress you’ve made. Are you where you would like to be yet? If not, the good news is, you still have a few months to get there. It’s also a great time to begin planning for next year, and adjusting your goals based on how successful your current year has been.

Smart Choice has had a wonderful, record-setting 2019, having gained over 1,000 new agency partners so far who have collectively contributed to a total annual revenue growth of 26 percent year-to-date. The exciting thing about this news is that it’s our company’s fourth year in a row of over 1,000 new agency partnerships and double-digit growth, which means we are on pace to exceed our goal of 1,400 new partners for 2019. At the same time last year, we had added 834 new agency partners, and added just over 1,200 by the end of the year

It’s important to track your growth, and set clear, attainable goals. Being specific about how you want to grow and change, and tracking your goals as the year progresses, almost always drives measurable results. It’s one of those things that small business advisors like to harp on, but the results from people who follow through on this advice are confirmation of the importance of goal setting.

Our goals at Smart Choice always involve making sure our agents are seeing success, and that we are providing the tools they need to evolve. It’s important to have goals in order to grow your agency, but only clearly defined goals help you stay on track and measure growth. See our Minnesota State Director’s article on page 10 to learn specific ways you can plan for your agency’s future!

At Smart Choice, the continuation of our growth and success each year is a direct reflection of the commitment from our staff, our carriers and our agency partners working together to achieve these results. All of us work together to sustain mutually beneficial relationships, as we persevere in this changing industry. Our hope is that we continue to drive commission growth in the agencies we serve, by providing the right carrier relationships, the right incentives, and the right opportunities as we expand in the future.
