Guilford County, located in North Carolina, is in the top ten for hungriest counties in the United States, and just three years ago, the county was ranked number one. Local companies, including Smart Choice®, have rallied together year after year to prioritize the stocking of our food pantries.
Each year, the United Way of Greater High Point, holds a CANPaign Canned Food Drive to stock the local pantries.
Internally, Smart Choice® began holding a competition between departments to see which departmental team could bring in the most cans. The Inside Sales team by bringing in over 6,000 cans or items! At the beginning of the competition, Smart Choice® had a large goal this year to provide over 10,000 cans. Well, that goal was far surpassed because the total ended up being over 16,000 cans.

The CANpaign food drive occurs each September and serves as the kickoff for the annual United Way campaign. Each year more than 50 local organizations conduct food drives and volunteers collect over 100,000 pounds of food (enough to fill three or more Old Dominion trailers) in a massive one-day blitz. At the end of the day the food is offloaded into trucks of the 12+ local food pantries who will then serve our fellow neighbors who need assistance.
