Doug Witcher, CEO of Smart Choice, a network for independent insurance agentsIn business, this is often the time of year when we begin planning for what’s to come in the next year – from budgeting and goal-setting to creating actionable punch lists and enacting plans.

But, it should also be a time of reflection – a time to sit back and review everything you’ve accomplished in the last twelve months, and to appreciate how far you’ve come and how much growth you’ve experienced.

Reflection is important because it helps us become more effective humans and business owners. It’s a learning experience.

Take some time to review the goals you set for your business last year. How many came to fruition? Perhaps you met or even surpassed a few. Perhaps you fell short of others. What did you get right? What can you change going forward?

Studying and acknowledging these things can be one of the most important steps in affecting change for increased success. Maybe that means adding additional staff to your agency, or maybe even recognizing talents of your employees and how they can most effectively help you grow. Maybe it means learning a new niche market and making that your focus in 2019. Maybe it means better work-life balance.

Whatever adjustments you need to make, don’t be fearful to take that leap of faith. As Seth Godin wrote, “Change is not a threat, it’s an opportunity. Survival is not the goal, transformative success is.” Transformative success is about taking a deep look to see what needs to be changed in all aspects of your business.

Don’t fear change, but instead embrace it. Succeed big by thinking big. Be smarter than your competitors by being courageous and taking a hard look at your agency’s successes and challenges. Be different!

Smart Choice® is always looking for new and innovative way to assist you in your endeavors in order to help you not just to survive, but to thrive and to be successful. We look forward to continuing to pursue new and exciting things with you in 2019!
