Jason Hamstra, Vice President, Smart Start Personal LinesDespite all the turmoil of 2020, Smart Start Personal Lines boasted a banner year, breaking production records and writing over $1 million in premium for 7 months straight. As we turn the page to 2021, we anticipate our best year yet in SSPL, setting our sights on additional growth and more efficient processes. To that end, we have zeroed in on several strategic initiatives to continue down the path to profitability this year. Your engagement is critical as we move forward, and I and my team are committed to staying active with agents and carrier partners as we navigate this path, with the ultimate goal of boosting confidence in our program as well as growing together.

The SSPL path to profitability launches with a three-pronged approach for improvement in 2021:

  1. Operational Procedures,
  2. Organic Growth, and
  3. Retention.

As we roll out the plan, you will see enhanced training opportunities, a focus on accountability for both agents and underwriters, targeted marketing campaigns, contracting best practices documentation, and much more. The ultimate goal is to ensure Smart Start Personal Lines is actively engaged with agents to set them up for success, which, after all, is the reason Smart Choice was founded.

This 2-year plan shines a light both on our internal team and processes, as well as agency operations and how to generate leads and retain clients, and everything in between. As we begin to examine and implement these initiatives, we welcome and encourage your feedback.
